1947 FIVE CENTS

Circulation strikes: 95,000,000
Designer: Felix Schlag
Diameter: 21.2 millimeters
Metal content: Copper - 75% Nickel - 25%
Weight: 5 grams

Mintmark: none

It felt like a long dry spell since the last interesting coin... But then yesterday's trip to the deli for a sandwich resulted in a single Nickle in change. A single 1947 Nickel! And all is right with the world again. (Okay, maybe not ALL is right, but it was a bit of happiness to find a 60+ year old coin)

It's hard to tell from the photo, but I think that's a "D" mintmark...the early nickels had mintmarks on the back to the right of the monument. Just thought I'd help with your OCD :)
