I picked this up at the San Jose Coin Club's 40th Annual Show earlier this month. Found in the junk box at one of the dealers tables. First, let me say, I really enjoy searching through those junk boxes, well, any box, bag, pile, or stack of coins is good. It's the ability to touch and the not knowing what you'll find next. I have two requirements when buying a coin, The coin has to appeal to me, and the date and mintmark have to be readable. I was surprised to find a large cent in a junk box that met those modest requirements. There were a lot of older coins… but many were bent, engraved, or had holes in them… those are instant appeal killers for me. Many more were so worn as to make identifying them very difficult, if not impossible. So imagine my pleasure at finding this large cent.
