OK, so I'll admit, right up front, that this didn't actually surface in circulation… but it was acquired yesterday, unexpectedly, and not purchased. It happened something like this… I went to my first meeting of the Diablo Numismatic Society after work last night. My wife decided that she was interested in going with me. I had already decided to pay for a membership, as apposed to just visiting as a guest, as a means of helping to support the group even if I did not find that it was a good fit for me. So my wife and I both paid our annual dues and became members. Easy. The meeting proceeded… treasury issues, planning for future events, discussion of upcoming coin shows, etc. Then the guest speaker. Mike Prusinski from LifeLock talked about identity theft. While he did market his company's services it was not the focus of his talk, and he provided information for people that wanted to handle minimizing their risks themselves. And then a raffle. Each month a number of coins are raffled off at the meeting as a means of generating funds for the group. My wife and I each bought some tickets… and she won the 1930 Dime. This is now the nicest coin in her collection of Winged Liberty Head dimes. The picture really doesn't do the coin justice… I tried… repeatedly. The damn thing is SO shiny that it was difficult to get a good image. I eventually invaded the image quality room at the office and mucked around with the light box to get a better picture. The results were much better than when I tried taking the pictures at my desk under the normal office lights. (but damn it! Now I want one of those light boxes at home!) Anyway… pocket change or not this is definitely the coin of the day!
