1979… A dime the same age as my car. I believe this one came with the morning cup of caffeine.
Today is the opening of the new Mint Plaza next to the old San Francisco mint. Located on the north side of the old mint between 5th Street and Mint Street, the new plaza aims to transform the a 300 foot long stretch of Jessie Street into a small 'urban oasis'. There are already several restaurants scheduled to open soon at the plaza, and developer Patrick McNerny hopes that lofts, nightclubs, and more restaurants are soon to follow. With the conversion of the Old Mint into a museum still at least three years out the plaza is a bit of a gamble. If it all goes well, in a few years we should find ourselves with a new museum housed in the Old Mint, and a (free) Wi-Fi enabled plaza from which to blog after visits. I had hoped to find a San Francisco minted coin for today to go along with, but it did not end up working out that way.

Hey out there!

My daughter turns 30 years old on May the 7th 1979. I thought of some strange gift. Get her

30 -- 1979 pennies
30 -- 1979 nickels
30 -- 1979 dimes
30 -- 1979 quarters
30 -- 1979 halves

3 --- 1979 Susan B for her three decades of living

That all adds to be $30.30 on her 30th birthday.

I am having trouble with the dimes. I need ten more. How hard could that be?

With friends helping, we have gone through over $200 worth of dimes and have only found twenty total (that is over 2000 dimes or 1% success finding rate - if I did my new math correctly - that dates me by saying new math).

If you find any - I am looking just throughout the month of April, 2009. I will check back later to see how many - if any body finds that year.
